OmniBSIC Bank Engages Persons Living with Disabilities at the University of Ghana During 2025 Customer Service Week

October 15, 2025

As part of its 2025 Customer Service Week celebrations, OmniBSIC Bank held a strategic engagement with students living with disabilities at the University of Ghana (UG). Facilitated by the Institutional Advancement Directorate (InAD), the event aimed to foster dialogue on inclusive banking and explore collaborative pathways to improve financial accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The initiative aligns with this year’s global theme, “Mission Possible,” and underscores OmniBSIC’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion for all.

Held at the Assistive Technology Lab of the Information Technology Directorate (ITD), the engagement provided a safe and empowering space for students to share their experiences and expectations regarding banking services. It also served as a platform for the Bank to listen, learn, and reaffirm its commitment to inclusive service delivery.

Ing. Francis Kwabena Boachie, Director of ITD, praised OmniBSIC’s proactive approach and commended InAD for facilitating the engagement, noting that such collaborations are essential to building a more inclusive university ecosystem.

Speaking on the significance of the event, Prof. Joana Salifu Yendork, Director of the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA), applauded the initiative and encouraged OmniBSIC to invest in staff training through CEDSA’s short courses to deepen understanding and improve service delivery. She noted that the engagement aligns with UG’s Strategic Priorities 1 and 4, Enhancing Transformative Student Experience and Engagement and Partnerships.

Mr Alexander Bankole Williams

A key highlight of the event was a presentation by Mr. Alexander Bankole Williams, Head of Assistive Technology, titled “The Future of Banking: Enhancing Access for Persons Living with Disabilities.” Mr. Williams emphasised the need for financial institutions to design services that are accessible to all, referencing the 1992 Constitution and the Persons with Disability Act, 2006. Mr Williams advocated for:

- Removing financial barriers to promote independence and dignity,
- Adopting accessibility standards in banking infrastructure and digital platforms,
- Educating and training banking staff to serve persons with disabilities better.

His presentation set the tone for a robust dialogue between students and the Bank’s leadership, who responded with empathy and actionable commitments.

Madam Chidinma Braye-Yankee

Madam Chidinma Braye-Yankee, Group Head, Corporate and Support Services at OmniBSIC Bank, reaffirmed the Bank’s mission to ensure no one is left behind in accessing financial services. She noted that the engagement was not a one-off event but part of a broader strategy to embed inclusion into the Bank’s operations. She stated:

“We came here today because we are committed to the Disability Act. We want to be well-informed to comply with it, and truly, we have been schooled properly in a very friendly environment. You will experience a difference the next time you visit our banking halls.”

The event concluded with a renewed sense of partnership and purpose, as OmniBSIC Bank pledged to improve accessibility in its banking halls and digital services in line with the Persons with Disability Act. Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to be heard and recognised, and InAD reaffirmed its commitment to advancing UG’s mission through strategic stakeholder engagement.
