The University of Ghana has further advanced its international engagement and partnerships agenda following a courtesy visit by a delegation from the University of Liberia, led by its President, Dr. Layli Maparyan. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and leadership collaboration between the two institutions.
The delegation was received by the Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, whose interactions with the visitors emphasised the importance of purposeful partnerships in advancing research excellence, leadership development, and continental cooperation among African universities.
Deliberations focused on several priority areas, including student exchange programmes, joint PhD supervision, faculty collaboration, and participation in the Legon Leadership Academy. These initiatives are expected to promote academic mobility, shared scholarship, and leadership capacity-building while enriching the learning and professional experience of students and staff.
Professor Amfo highlighted the University of Ghana’s commitment to strengthening relationships with sister institutions across Africa and beyond, noting that strategic academic collaborations remain central to the University’s vision of expanding its global relevance while contributing meaningfully to societal development through higher education.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Institutional Advancement Directorate (InAD), the University’s central administrative unit responsible for strengthening institutional reputation, cultivating strategic relationships, and mobilising support to advance the University’s mission and long‑term priorities. Present were the Director of InAD, Professor Godwin Abekah‑Nkrumah, and the Head of Alumni Development, Ms Adwoa Abrokwah.
Also in attendance was the President of the University of Ghana Alumni Association in Liberia (UGAAL), Mr. Daniel Blamoh Nah. His presence underscored the important role of the University’s international alumni network in supporting cross‑border institutional relationships and strengthening ties between the University of Ghana and Liberia’s academic and professional communities.

She noted the potential of the proposed partnership to create transformative opportunities for students and faculty while strengthening academic capacity, leadership development, and regional collaboration.
Both universities reaffirmed their commitment to advancing discussions toward formalising the partnership through mutually beneficial initiatives that support innovation, academic exchange, and knowledge sharing.
The engagement aligns with the University of Ghana’s strategic objective to expand its global footprint through intentional international collaborations that enhance academic quality, institutional visibility, and sustainable impact.
