November 24, 2025

The University of Ghana has embarked on a high-level working visit to four provinces in China—Shenzhen, Beijing, Henan (Zhengzhou), and Zhejiang (Hangzhou)—to explore opportunities in technology, digital transformation, agriculture, research, and talent development.

The delegation, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, included representatives from various University Directorates and the Institutional Advancement Directorate (InAD), notably Prof. Abekah-Nkrumah, Acting Director, and Mrs Joanna Omaboe, Lead for the Institutional Development Unit. This visit reflects InAD’s mandate as UG’s central administrative unit for enhancing institutional reputation, fostering alumni and donor relations, and mobilising resources to advance the University’s mission and strategic priorities.

Highlights of the Visit

  • Shenzhen: Huawei hosted the team to immersive sessions at its Data Communication & Storage Innovation Lab, Training Centre, Exhibition Hall, and R&D campus—an impressive model of long-term investment in innovation and talent.
  • Beijing: The delegation engaged Peking University’s High-Performance Computing Platform, visited Huawei’s Wangfujing Flagship Store, and paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to China to discuss technology-enabled higher education partnerships.
  • Henan: At Henan University of Animal Husbandry & Economy, the team reviewed teaching and research facilities and advanced discussions on operationalising UG’s MoU. Field visits to an automated poultry farm and technology firms such as Yunhe Data Co. Ltd and Zhengzhou Newcapec Electronics Co., Ltd. showcased China’s strong industry–university integration.
  • Zhejiang (Hangzhou): The visit concluded with the 2025 Board Meeting of the UG Confucius Institute at Zhejiang University of Technology, where achievements were reviewed and plans for 2026 were outlined.

Across all engagements, one message was clear: China’s development is driven by deliberate investment in people, systems, and technology. These insights will inform UG’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan as the University strengthens partnerships, expands research collaboration, and accelerates innovation.

The University expresses its gratitude to Huawei, Peking University, Henan University of Animal Husbandry & Economy, Zhejiang University of Technology, and the Ghana Embassy in Beijing for their warm hospitality and commitment to fostering collaboration. UG looks forward to translating these engagements into tangible outcomes for students, faculty, and national development.
