UG Strengthens Global Alumni Engagement with Launch of UGA Network App

June 1, 2026

The University of Ghana has officially launched the University of Ghana Global Alumni Network (UGA Network) App, marking a major step in its efforts to build a more connected and engaged global alumni community.

The launch event, held on Thursday, 28 May 2026 at the West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC), brought together University leadership, alumni, students, and guests. The occasion underscored the University’s renewed focus on strengthening relationships with its graduates and leveraging alumni contributions to support institutional development.

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, described the App as a strategic response to a longstanding challenge in alumni relations. She noted that while the University’s alumni community remains strong and influential across the world, engagement has often been fragmented and uncoordinated. Prof. Amfo explained that the introduction of the UGA Network App provides a structured and reliable platform to maintain these connections and deepen alumni involvement in the life of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that alumni are critical to advancing the University’s strategic priorities, including enhancing student experiences, expanding partnerships, and mobilising resources for growth. She called on alumni to actively engage with the platform by registering, updating their profiles, and reconnecting with fellow graduates, noting that sustained engagement is essential to building a stronger and more responsive University community.

The UGA Network App is designed to provide a central and secure platform where alumni can register and verify their status, connect with classmates and year groups, and access opportunities for networking and mentorship. It also enables users to stay informed about University events and initiatives, while offering avenues to support the institution through partnerships and contributions.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the Institutional Advancement Directorate, Professor Gordon Abekah-Nkrumah, highlighted the significance of the App in transforming how the University engages its alumni. He noted that the platform establishes a unified system for managing alumni relationships, moving away from multiple informal channels towards a coordinated, data-driven approach that supports long-term engagement and development.

The App was developed by the University’s Information Technology Directorate, reflecting the institution’s commitment to harnessing internal expertise to deliver innovative digital solutions that support its advancement agenda.
