History of the Institutional Advancement Directorate (InAD)
In 2017, the University of Ghana established the Office of Institutional Advancement as a key unit under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. At its inception, the office was managed by a Head and focused primarily on Alumni Relations.
In 2024, the office transitioned into the Institutional Advancement Directorate (InAD), reporting directly to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and led by a Director. Our mandate expanded significantly to include:
- Alumni Development – Engaging alumni for advocacy, networking, and financial support of university priorities.
- Resource Mobilisation – Identifying and securing funding to support academic, research, and service units across the University.
- Donor & Partner Engagement – Cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with philanthropic, corporate, bilateral, and multilateral partners.
- Project Stewardship & Implementation Oversight – Ensuring donor-funded projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with measurable impact.
- Advancement Communications – Crafting communications and visibility strategies that amplify the impact of partnerships and institutional achievements.
- External Institutional Partnerships – Establishing collaborations with government, industry, and international institutions to co-create programmes and services.
Today, InAD serves as the central administrative unit responsible for enhancing the University’s reputation, fostering relationships with alumni and donors, and securing philanthropic support to advance its mission and strategic priorities. Through these collaborations, InAD mobilises resources, builds networks, and creates opportunities that elevate the University of Ghana’s standing as a leading institution in Africa and beyond.
